The Sydney workshop of AllightSykes has been extremely busy lately. That’s why Sam Kilpatrick, the Service Fitter from our Kurri Kurri branch, recently spent time in the big smoke to help out.
One of Sam’s main jobs was to help our Electrician, Joe Howman, complete the service and repair of the Perkins engine that drives the back-up generator at Parliament House in Sydney’s CBD.
The original Parliament House is the oldest public building in the City of Sydney. Built initially as the colony’s hospital, the Georgian-inspired edifice was completed back in 1816. The meeting place for the NSW Government for over 100 years, nowadays there’s a modern multi-storey structure behind the colonial façade.
Recently the building’s back-up generator system – powered by a 4012 Perkins engine – was playing up. Sitting at the very heart of NSW democracy, working 24/7, a reliable and efficient standby generator is vital. So, the contractor called AllightSykes at the first sign of trouble.
The Contractor had installed the machine into the Parliament building, but it subsequently suffered damage. As soon as they got to the site, Joe and Sam quickly determined that the intercooler on the 4012 series engine had leaked into the manifold. With the problem identified, they then worked quickly to complete the service and repair.
It was not a small job either, requiring a complete rebuild. Yet, for AllightSykes, that’s not an issue: as the Australian distributor of Perkins Engines, AllightSykes understand these machines better than anyone. Even more, with AllightSykes on the job, genuine Perkins parts are quickly on hand too.
“With an array of other service and repair jobs to be completed at the workshop – plus the major rebuild at Parliament House – the team at AllightSykes Sydney workshop was reaching full operating capacity. So, the arrival of Sam from Kurri was very timely, especially as there was another major project due at the same time” said Jason Davidson, the AllightSykes Regional Service Manager on the East Coast.
With the engine rebuild in the city, plus a multitude of other projects, Sam was needed to stay and support the Sydney team for nearly a month. With all hands on deck, the team kept on schedule.
At AllightSykes, in Sydney and across Australia, we take great pride in delivering what we promise. No matter what challenges we face, we always do what it takes to get the job done.
Jason was extremely happy with the level of commitment shown by Joe, Sam and the team working from our Sydney branch. “For all jobs, we kept to our clients’ schedule, delivering high-level expertise and high-quality equipment on budget and on time” reported Jason.
