Troubleshooting

LIGHTING TOWER TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Check battery isolator is in ON position.
  • Ensure Emergency Stop (if fitted) is not engaged.
  • Check battery is charged. Charge or replace as required.
  • Check sufficient fuel in tank.
  • If ambient temperature is below 5 C, turn key to pre-heat before starting.
  • Check fuel tank for water contamination.
  • If tank has previously been emptied, prime by pumping fuel bulb
  • Check tower is level.
  • Check Main circuit breaker is on.
  • Check all circuit breakers are on.
  • Lamps have been allowed to cool since last operation (15 mins).
  • Stop machine. Turn of main isolator switch to reset control panel and allow lights to cool down.
  • Turn engine off. Visually check for damaged cables. If no damage apparent, reset circuit breakers. Follow start up procedure. If fault persists after resetting, do not operate tower and call for service.
  • Check Engine fluid levels. Engine and alternator will be very hot after running. Allow to cool before checking fluid levels.
  • Check sufficient fuel in tank.
  • Lamps have been allowed to cool since last operation (15 mins).
  • Circuit breakers are on.
  • Check lamp condition and replace if necessary. Light assemblies may be hot. Allow to cool completely before touching (15 mins).
  • Stop machine. Turn of main isolator switch to reset control panel and allow lights to cool down.
  • Check battery isolator is in ON position.
  • Ensure Emergency Stop (if fitted) is not engaged.
  • Check Engine is running.
  • Check circuit breaker is on.
  • Check Shut down timer settings (if fitted).

PUMPS ISSUES

  • Suction lift too great
  • Inlet of suction pipe insufficiently submerged
  • Suction inlet or strainer blocked
  • Excessive amount of air or gas in liquid
  • Viscosity and / or S.G. of liquid being pumped too high
  • Suction line not air tight
  • Suction hose collapsed
  • Non return valve ball not seating
  • Mechanical seal / Packing drawing air into pump
  • Pump’s priming system blocked or badly worn
  • Separation tank cover blocked
  • Pump’s priming hose leaking air

 

  • Incorrect engine speed
  • Discharge head too high
  • Suction lift too great
  • Suction inlet or strainer blocked
  • Suction line not air tight
  • Suction hose collapsed
  • Mechanical seal drawing air into pump
  • Obstruction in pump casing / impeller
  • Impeller excessively worn
  • Delivery hose punctured or blocked
  • Pump not primed
  • Air pockets in suction line
  • Inlet of suction pipe insufficiently submerged
  • Excessive amount of air or gas in liquid

 

  • Speed too low
  • Excessive amount of air or gas in liquid
  • Incorrect direction of rotation
  • Viscosity and / or S.G. of liquid being pumped too high
  • Impeller Damaged
  • Impeller out of balance

 

  • Suction lift too great
  • Insufficient water at suction inlet
  • Suction inlet or strainer blocked
  • Suction hose collapsed
  • Excessive air leak in suction line
  • Mechanical seal / Packing drawing air into pump
  • Obstruction in pump casing / impeller
  • Delivery hose punctured or blocked

 

  • Obstruction in pump casing / impeller
  • Impeller out of balance
  • Shaft bent
  • Shaft running of centre because of worn bearings or misalignment
  • Misalignment
  • Bearings worn
  • Excessive thrust caused by mechanical failure inside pump
  • Lack of bearing lubrication
  • Incorrect assembly of stacked bearings, i.e. angular contact ball bearings fitted front-to-front instead of back-to-back
  • Dirt in bearings
  • Rusting of bearings from water in housing

 

  • Engine speed too high
  • Obstruction in pump casing / impeller Impeller damaged
  • Cavitation due to excessive suction lift
  • Suction or discharge re-circulation of fluid within the pump
  • Impeller out of balance
  • Shaft bent
  • Shaft running of centre because of worn bearings or misalignment
  • Misalignment
  • Bearings worn
  • Pump not primed
  • Pump or suction pipe not completely filled with water Inlet of suction pipe insufficiently submerged
  • Excessive thrust caused by mechanical failure inside pump
  • Lack of bearing lubrication
  • Incorrect assembly of stacked bearings, i.e. angular contact ball bearings fitted front-to-front instead of back-to-back
  • Dirt in bearings
  • Rusting of bearings from water in housing
